My Great Granfather's Work

My Great Grandfather was called WIlliam Curry. He was a miner, but later made these...

These first two images are of a memorial. It it situated in Elswick cemetery in Newcastle. It is to remember those who died in at pit disaster at View Pit, Montagu Colliery (Scotswood, Newcastle). The disaster occurred on 30 March 1925 and killed 38 men and boys. A J Cronin's novel "The Stars Looked Down" is thought to be loosely based on this disaster.

The second picture shows the official unveiling by Alderman Weir (from the Newcsatle Journal Newspaper dated 7 June 1926). My Great Grandfather can be seen at the left of the memorial moving the covering away. Some family members are in the crowd.

This is my great grandfather with the headstone he made for his wife's grave (Birtley, Tyne and Wear).

This little character is called "Figure of Spring". We think that it used to be situated in the Exhibition Park in Newcastle.

This lovely girl was taken to Battersea in the back of a baker's van. My Granda and Uncle Charlie (his brother) were taken along for the adventure too!

This beautiful angel has Wallsend written on the back of the photo...

These two have Armstrong College written on the back of the photos:

A few more that need to be written about later!
